How can my Black Box help if I have an accident?

How can my Black Box help if I have a claim?

Your black box measures G-force, so will record the large force exerted upon impact. This is handy because it’ll measure the exact time of the incident, as well as the location. But it doesn’t stop there – as part of how we calculate your Driving Behaviour Score, it’ll also measure the speed that you were travelling, which could help also help with your claim.

Then for the icing on the cake, each black box is fitted with something called an accelerometer – which not only helps to determine your acceleration and braking, it will also record the G-Force (letting us know the severity of your accident). The GPS can then determine which direction you were travelling in, all of which can help you build a case – especially if the accident wasn’t your fault!

What should I do if I get into an accident?

If you’re involved in a car accident, no matter how small, you should safely manoeuvre to the side of the road (if possible) and switch off your engine – remember to turn on your hazard lights too.

Check that you and your passengers don’t have any injuries, before safely getting out to check if the other driver is okay.

Try to stay calm, and take some deep breaths. Don’t apologise or accept responsibility unless you’re completely sure it was your fault. It’s important to try to remain as calm as you can, even though the situation might be very frustrating and stressful.

If your car, the other car, or any debris is blocking the road, you should call the police as soon as you can and they’ll be able to safely move them out of the road.

You should then swap details with the other driver, and take photos of both cars if you can – you should make a note of their name, address (and those of any passengers who may have sustained injuries), registration number and their insurance information.
